For a quiet and relaxing stay
You are on the...
Local Area page
We are extremely well-placed
for many activities.
Given our location in the hills of the Peak District, walking is very popular.
We are situated at the junction of four way-marked footpaths providing the
facility for going for walks straight from the front door without the need
for transport. (See ordinance survey map OL1 - The Dark Peak Area). The
Pennine Way is easily accessible; indeed the start of it is not many miles
away in Edale. We are also ideally placed on the Pennine Bridleway (click
here for information) linking Cumbria to Derbyshire.
Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, can
not only be seen from your bedroom window, but you can walk up to the top of
it from our doorway, again without the need for transport and pick up the Pennine
Way from there.
On the way, you can see one of the many wrecks of World War
II planes which have now become national landmarks, and you can see Kinder
Downfall, which, when the wind gusts up the valley, presents the unusual phenomenon
of a waterfall going upwards!
Manchester is only 30 minutes away (there is a regular
train service from Glossop) where there are a whole wealth of theatres, cinemas,
interesting working museums, shops, and other places of interest. Again our
stock of literature can provide many ideas, whatever your tastes.
Parents with children at the Manchester Universities often stay with us when
visiting.
We are also only 30 minutes away from Manchester airport.
Other places to visit within easy reach include Bakewell where you can sample
the famous Bakewell Pudding, Buxton, Castleton with its caverns and castle,
Chatsworth House and Lyme Park.
